Puffy Paint Portrait Project

Perhaps it's the alliteration, but nosotros've been style into puffy paint lately. This project took me a long time to figure out- I knew the technique I wanted to use, but wasn't sure how to end the project, until Fen and I were messing around with materials for a different project – coming shortly… (How'south that for foreshadowing?)

Materials:

• Puffy Fabric Paint
• Wax paper
• Magazine faces
• Glue
• Paper
• Optional: Watercolors, old volume pages, colored cardstock

 Directions:

Lay wax paper downward on a magazine folio you desire to trace. We found big old beautiful close-ups of model faces. Now is a skilful time to explain to your child that people don't actually look like this in real life. (This makes me want to write a Photoshop postal service for kids, but I barely know Photoshop. Anybody upwards for writing a guest post?)

Trace with the puffy pigment, focusing on outlining the main features of the face. We're going fo simplicity here, so urge them to not draw lots of private hair strands. It'southward all nearly capturing the outlines of the shapes on the face up.

Make sure they are doing this on a surface where their slice won't exist disturbed for virtually 24 hours. Painting on top of a blistering tray or large cutting board that can then be moved easily off the table is a skillful idea. Try to move it upwardly loftier, because yous will all be tempted to touch the paint after a few hours to see if it is dry, and it won't be, and then information technology will smear. Afterward the paint is totally dry, pick it off the wax paper. This is fun! Sometimes it will want to stick to the wax paper, but we found that if you flick information technology up with your fingernail it comes up pretty easily. Adjust your paint lines on meridian of paper and mucilage them down. Pay attention to trying to continue your background light if y'all employ dark material paint, or dark if yous apply calorie-free cloth paint. This will help the images popular.
